![]() ![]() Does FDG avid mean cancer?Ĭancer cells with a faster metabolic rate such as colorectal adenocarcinoma are very FDG avid, whereas others such as mucinous cancers consume less glucose and therefore are less FDG avid. The role of this procedure is to detect metabolically active malignant lesions including lung cancer, colorectal cancer, lymphoma, melanoma, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, brain cancer and multiple myeloma. Those abbreviations stand for: fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET).
